Wakeman BGC's basketball leagues provide an environment for players to learn and improve upon the basics of basketball and practice good sportsmanship while having fun and making new friends.

Registration in any basketball program requires a current Wakeman Boys & Girls Club membership. Learn more about what the Club offers!

Grades 3 - 4

Pee Wee Basketball

Fee: $129

Dates: November 11 - February 2

The Pee Wee Basketball League is a great introductory league for boys and girls in grades 3-4. There will be six divisions (3rd, 4th, and 5th grade each boys and girls), but some grades may be combined based on enrollment. Teams practice one night per week and

typically play one gamer per weekend. Home court specified during player registration.

Grades 6 - 8

Junior Basketball League

Grades: 6-8

Fee: $129

Season:  February 3 - April 11

Boys Junior League is the exciting place where 6th, 7th and 8th graders choose to play in a structured environment while learning the game and developing team skills and concepts. While traditionally a league for boys, girls are welcome too! Each grade group

is scheduled to play in separate divisions however two grades may be combined based on registration. Players are assigned to a team that practices one night during the week (Monday-Friday based on participant’s availability) and play one game each weekend. Teams play a 7-game regular season and then a single elimination playoff to crown a champion in each division. Home court specified

during registration. 


Travel Basketball

Grades 5 - 8 | Fee $275

Dates: October - March | 6 - 8:30 PM

WBGC's Travel Basketball program is for players looking to play beyond the rec level, with teams coached by experiences, paid coaches who strive to emphasize a higher level of competitive basketball experience and commitment. Teams play in the Fairfield County Basketball League (FCBL) and practice two nights per week. Practice schedules and locations are consistent for the entire season. Tryouts have been completed; selected players can register.


Grades 9 - 12

Spring Senior League

Fee: $129

Dates: April 21 - June 6 (Monday, Wednesday, Friday game nights)

High school members love this springtime 5 on 5 Spring Basketball League. Players create their own teams. Individual players will be accepted and assigned to teams as needed. Each team will play 6 regular season weeknight games, followed by a double elimination tournament to crown the champion. Teams may be grouped into pools by grade based on enrollment.


Midnight Basketball

Ages: 13-19
Fee: None
Dates: Fridays, April 25 – August 22 at Smilow Burroughs Clubhouse & Madison Ave Community Clubhouse
Saturdays, June 7 – August 23 at Smilow-Burroughs Clubhouse
Ages 13-16 play 6 - 9pm

Ages 16-19 play 9pm - Midnight (No admission after 10pm)

Location: Smilow-Burroughs Clubhouse & Madison Avenue Community Clubhouse
Meals: Free dinner available weekly

Midnight Basketball at the Club is an exciting collaboration started in 2023 with the Bridgeport Police Department, Hall Neighborhood House, and The Justice Education Center, Inc. and Wakeman Boys & Girls Club. The Club will be open Fridays and Saturdays for pick-up basketball, supervised by WBGC staff and BPD officers. Registration at the Smilow-Burroughs Clubhouse or Madison Avenue Community Clubhouse is required and can be done in person or online. If you are not a current Wakeman Boys & Girls Club member, register as a non-member. Registration is required. Participants under 18 years old require a parent/guardian for registration. Additional details will be available starting early April.
